Convention FAQ's

How can I keep informed on your events?
We try to update the website as much as possible it is always easier to update our facebook page first followed by the website later. So make sure you follow us on Facebook or Twitter. 

How much does it cost to attend one of your Conventions?
Prices vary for each event depending on the costs of the guests invited. But we try and have tickets from $90ea.

Can I get a refund?
Refunds are only issued in the event of a full event cancellation. Please DO NOT ask for a refund.

Can I get a Refund if a guest or guests I want to see cancels?
You are booking for a genre specific convention, not a guest specific event. Guest cancellations are part of the game, but if you are attending for once specific guest and they cancel, you are not entitled to a refund.

What about if First Contact Conventions cancels or changes the date of the event?
In the event of a full cancellation, refunds or transfers will be offered. As stated in our Terms and Conditions of sale, we reserve the right to change dates of the events. This has only been done once in 14 years, where we moved the date back 2 weeks due to guest availability.

What are the ages for Children?
Children must be aged under 18 at time of event to qualify for a Child ticket. All children 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult (over 18). Children’s tickets can only be purchased with full priced General tickets. Maximum of 3 children’s tickets per adult ticket. The attending adult accepts full responsibility for the attending children. Children 15-17 can attend for the discounted rate without a adult. Whilst we care for every attendee at our events, no responsibility is accepted.

Do I get some sort of ticket for what I have bought?
We do not send out tickets via the post, all tickets are collected at the door.

How do I pay for my tickets?
Once tickets are booked you receive an email from us with payment options. These include credit card or direct deposit.

Do you offer Layby?
Yes, we offer layby on all ticket types.

What time do doors open for ticket collection?
Usually 9.00am on the day of the event unless states otherwise. 

What are the Event Times?
The event schedules are very similar for every show. Here is an example of what we use as a starting point

9.50am - Official Welcome
10am - Photo OPs
11am - Discussion Panel or Auction
Noon - Lunch Break
1pm - Discussion Panel
2pm - Discussion Panel

How much are Autographs and Photo Ops?
At any event around the world you will pay for guest autographs and photo ops. In recent years we have seen these prices rise and that is very much dependent on the guest attending, but we try and keep them at a standard rate of $40 an auto and $50 a photo.

Will there be merchandise available on the day?
Yes, as well as 8×10 pictures to have signed, there will be a full selection of general Science Fiction merchandise available for purchase through our retailing friends.

Can I get a selfie with the guest?
Sorry, no. We do not allow selfies with the guests, that is why we have a profesional photo session.

How does the photo session work?
Qt our events we offer you the opportunity to have your photo taken by a professional photographer with the celebrity guests. You purchase your Photo Op tokens at the token table on the day of the event for the guest of your choice (or group photo. Your photo will be printed on-site and available for collection during the lunch break (if not earlier). No more than 2 attendees permitted in any photo op.

Is my seat numbered in the auditorium?
Yes, all tickets are allocated seats.

What disabled facilities are there at your events?
We run all of our events within large hotels and can accomodate any special needs you may have. Please let us know at the time of booking if you have any.

Can I bring a camera or a video to take pictures of the guests during the talks?
You can bring a camera to take pictures during the talks however, you may only use flash photography for the first 5 minutes of each guest talk, You may still continue to take photos of the talk but it must be without the flash. If you continue to use flash photography. Please note that Video or Audio recording of Guest Talks is not permitted. If you are found to be recording the event you will be ejected from the event without a refund. This includes streaming the event on the internet.

Asking Questions during the stage talks?
You will have an opportunity to ask the guests questions during the guest talks however we ask that you ask interesting and appropriate questions, and not engage in conversations with them. Please do not ask for hugs or whether you can give the guest a gift etc.

I want to give the guest a gift, when can I do this?
You may give the guests gifts, however please remember to try to keep these small as guests may not want to carry back large and bulky presents. Gifts may be given to the staff member during the autograph session. They must be unwrapped and given to the guest assistant sitting with each guest. In the interest of health and safety we ask that you do not give either food or drink.

I’ve never been to your convention before, how can I trust you?
The people behind First Contact Conventions have over 14 years of experience running events throughout Australia and are very well known to the large fan groups around the country. If you're unsure, it's best to ask around.
